Trees

This week's photo theme is trees. Yay! I love trees. :-)

This tree is an Arizona Sycamore (Platanus wrightii). Even though this tree is known for it's colorful bark, I decided to do this one in black & white.

Krissy, my dear, this photo is for you! It was taken earlier this week on my vacation. The photo didn't turn out as "deep" as I had hoped, but I do like the crazy branches. The person I was with said these were oak trees, but they don't look like oak trees to me. Hmmm....

  1. Second photo looks like an oak - but the first one has too smooth a trunk. Great shots, though.

  5. Two good shots, but especially the first. I can't see the leaves well enough to be sure whether or not the second is an oak.

  7. Tree #2 looks like a Live Oak to me. The following comes from Wikipedia:

The name live oak comes from the fact that evergreen oaks remain green and "live" throughout winter, when other oaks are dormant, leafless and "dead"-looking. The name is used mainly in North America, where evergreen oaks are widespread in warmer areas, along the Atlantic coast from southeast Virginia and North Carolina to Florida, west along the Gulf Coast to Texas and Louisiana and across the southwest to California and southwest Oregon

  9. I never thought I would learn so much from my own blog! Guess it didn't occur to me that there are different types of oaks, just like there are different types of maples. Thanks, everyone! It's a good day when I learn something new.
