Growing Old Gracefully – Or Not

We’ve all heard the term “growing old gracefully”, but what does it really mean?  In search of an answer, my first stop was Google.  The results varied widely, from “How To Stay Young” to articles about birds.  The thing is, we are not supposed to stay young.  What is it about our society that sees aging as a negative thing?  As we age, yes, we lose things, but we also gain things.  Why doesn’t this get mentioned more often?  Sure, we’ll change as we get older, but that’s normal and inevitable.    We’re going to grow old whether we like it or not.  What is “old”, anyway?  Our perception of age changes as we do.

But what if I don’t want to grow old gracefully?  What if I don’t take things so seriously and have a little fun?  Maybe it’s time to rethink aging.  Maybe we should be thinking more like these guys:

  1. I didnt watch the video yet...but then, who said that as you grow old, you're supposed to sober up....the more we laugh and have fun, the more we are going to be around....

  2. I totally get the sentiment in the video and have felt this way for almost a couple of years now.

The other thing I've found is that as I've got older I don't care so much if I make a fool of myself while having fun.

    Life certainly is for living!

  3. I understand that you gain things as you get older, but I could live without the whiskers on my chin. WTF is up with that?

  4. The video got me thinking about my grandparents. I should ask them what their dreams are. Just because they are old doesn't mean they don't have dreams of doing something a little crazy.

Yeah, I don't care if I look crazy while having fun! Isn't that what's it's all about anyway?

One thing I don't like gaining as I get older is weight. I really need to do something about that....
