D-Day veteran Bernard Jordan of Hove, England is almost 90 years old. After being told that arrangements could not be made for him to attend the D-Day commemorative celebrations in Normandy, he walked away from his care center and high-tailed it to France. He told his carers that he was going for a walk, but Mr. Jordan (who surreptitiously hid his medals under his raincoat) made his way to a coach and then on to Normandy. The carers, thinking Mr. Jordan had gone missing, called the police. It wasn't until another veteran called the care center that they realized just what Mr. Jordan had done.
Mr. Jordan, you are a man with many admirable qualities. You are resourceful, intelligent, determined and clearly have a zest for life that many of us envy. Above all, thank you Mr. Jordan for your military service. Without you, the world would be a much different place. And thank you for bringing a smile to my face.
